Using drones to take aerial shots of houses is the newest toy that real estate agents have been using around the country. This past week it was announced that the Federal Aviation Adminstration (FAA) issued subpoenas for many New York City Brokerages because it is not legal to use drones for commercial purposes and real estate marketing is considered commercial – or so says the FAA. Realtors say it isn’t a commercial use because they don’t charge sellers for the pictures. Okay…..
There have been reports of drones hovering outside of apartment windows and lurking; one crashed into the sidewalk in NY and so on. The National Association of Realtors had recent piece on the use of drones in our monthly magazine, Realtor Magazine.
A bit of a battle is going on now and we shall see how this goes.
I am in NY for the 4th of July weekend and the fireworks display was just magnificent this year. Someone, not a realtor, took their drone and flew it into the fireworks and got some wonderful pictures.
