Let’s say you get a ticket for not wearing your seat belt which is what happened to me. I was only going one block but none the less did not put my seat belt on. I got a ticket. I naively thought I could go online and pay the ticket – silly me.
You see in New Orleans there is no rule as to when the ticket person has to turn in their copies of the ticket so that the ticket will be in the system and if it is not turned you can’t mail your check in, you can’t call in a credit card and you can’t go online and pay it because the City of New Orleans knows nothing about it.
So I called and was told it would be in the system in 7 days and that I should have read the ticket which tells me that except that the ticket says absolutely nothing about it. So I marked my calendar and went online to pay the ticket and there is no record. So I call in to pay by telephone but they can’t take my payment because THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE TICKET.
Now I am told it should be a week to ten days. So I will mark my calendar again and check again.
I have until the court date on the ticket to avoid a penalty however I can’t read whether it is July 1st or July 9th but there is nothing the City of New Orleans can do to check on this because THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE TICKET.
This is one of those annoying New Orleans things that go on. This is income to the City and this is the system – hmmmm. One can only wonder how much lost income this creates because people forget after a while to check (could take up to 5 weeks to get into the system with constant checking) or just get fed up .
8/16/2012 I have now received a notice that an arrest warrant has been issued for me. This is ridiculous but there it is. I paid the ticket the minute it showed up on their system. I paid the ticket 5 times because the system kept saying the it hadn’t worked. The ticket amount was taken out of my account 5 times and so I called to complain and what did they do? They refunded the amount 5 times instead of keeping one in payment. Because I complained right away the ticket amount was pending and now there is no record.
The City of New Orleans is so dysfunctional it literally leaves me speechless, almost speechless.
